Today we had people inside and out. We had inside crew caulking baseboards, hanging trim and installing window ledges. Outside crews finished the front and both gable ends in siding. With temperatures exceeding 102 degrees you would not have noticed it by the hard work the crew accomplished. Thanks to QT the sandwiches were great. If you missed out today, you really missed out... Marilyn made cookies! Homeowner is getting excited and so are we. Keep coming out to build and we will be turning the keys in no time.

It was a brutal 104 degrees and that didn't slow our ladies none!
We worked inside and out. Had a great day.

When you work with purpose your not really working... even in the heat!

We have Walls! All the interior was completed and the exterior walls were covered in OSB. We even started the porch.
The weather held out great. I sure was nice to see the sun again.
Next week TRUSSES! Need lots of help.

May 11th Lowes Class Painting 101

May 11th, Lowes held a Painting 101 class for the Women Build. Jack was great! We had 14 participates and even had wall placed in the middle of the sales floor ready for us to test our new found talents.
Jack our instructor give us great hints and tips, showed us all the latest products.
It was really a lot of fun. Can't wait till the next class...

Women Making a Difference really made a difference for Tulsa Women Build not only for 2011 but for the next 2 years. That's right, this fund raiser hosted by Kathy Taylor, Cathy Keating and Yvonne Hovell who this year is celebrating her 25th Anniversary Dealership. Honored guest Governor Mary Fallin and surprise guest Trisha Yearwood made this an exciting night.
April 30-May 7 will kick off this year's National Women Build Week starting all over the nation. Tulsa will begin it's 11th Tulsa House on May 7th @ 8am and will continue every Saturday until complete (usually 12-14 weeks).
All ladies over the age of 16 are welcomed. Sign up now on www.habitat-tulsa.org using the volunteer now.

Lady Builders,
We have been asked to help with Habitat's Youth United build starting on Sept. 18 and will continue until November. Building with site supervisor Rick every Saturday 8-5 until complete.
Our Women Build project on the Second Saturdays of each month will continue at the job site.
We will be helping Tulsa's 16 year old and up become active in their community. So grab your hammers and see you there. Sign up online (using the new volunteer NOW) at www.habitat-tulsa.org.
P.S. carpooling may be needed. Parking is at a premium.

It has been a one hot summer. We are winding down. The drive way is poured and the house is complete. All we need is sod and we are good to go.

It is the middle of June and the build is going along on schedule. We are completing the shed, siding and baseboards and painting inside this weekend.
We have been fortunate to have several ladies volunteer to sponsor the lunches. We have a few weekends that still need to be covered. Next couple of weeks we will be continuing to finish the inside of the house with hardware, cabinets, mini-blinds and appliances. We are getting close to handing over the keys!! Still need volunteers. Grab a hammer lets get busy.

Last couple of weeks have been busy, despite the rain, we have a roof, windows,doors, and the porch is up. We have had lots of groups come out and they are all doing great!

June 4 and 5 we will have a booth at the CRAZY QUILT show @ the Tulsa EXPO from 10-6. We will be selling pins and key chains. This is a great opportunity to show even more women how to get involved with Tulsa Women Build.

We will also be BUILDING. Need lots of hands. We need to complete the insulation inside and get a really good jump on the out side vinyl siding.
So bring your sunscreen and head out there Saturday and lets get this house sided.

Day Two -Women Build House

Saturday May 8, 2010. Wow, What progress.
The day started out great. Nice weather, gentle breeze and warm sun. We started right away getting the trusses up. Lots of new faces and some returning old friends.

The announcement to the ladybuilders that we were installing trusses came to shock on the faces of the new recruits. They saw the pile of neatly organized triangular trusses and the height of the house and they were very doubtful.

With a leap of faith and with the guidance of the crew leaders showed them just how easy they go up. After the first truss was in place... a wave of confidence took over the new volunteers. For the rest of the day, each volunteer couldn't wait the get the next project underway.

"Anne said look ... "its starting to look like a real house."

One of our crew leaders said. I forgot how exciting it is to watch ladies for the first time to witness and participate in a first build day.

The trusses went up without a hitch. The windows are installed and the wall sheathing is now complete. Drywall nailers are in place and next week we will start the Decking of the roof, and start building the shed. Garages are not included in Habitat homes so sheds are built to help with outdoor storage, sheds are sided the same as the home (very cute).

Marty donated lunch this week for all of those who worked a full day. Thanks Marty for your contribution! Lunches are always welcomed for the all day crew.

Saturday May 1st Day ONE!

Saturday went so well. It started to rain just as we started to set the job site up. Then it quit soon as our first lady builder showed up. We started right away.

We had several new faces now new friends help to build. We did great. The rain started up again, luckily it didn't last log.

Our wall raising ceremony went beautifully. Howards family and Sally's friends joined together to sing their praise. Howard and Sally will sure be missed. This will be the first women build in Tulsa without them. Our thoughts and prayers to their families.

With the break in the weather we raised our first wall, then the next, then the next and finally the last of the exterior walls were secured. Keeping an eye on the weather we finished the day with wet t-shirts, muddy shoes and half the interior walls and lots of smiles and lots of new friends.

This Saturday we have a head start. Tulsa habitat Staff did their Seasonal build day on our house. THANKS! So we will be getting right to Trusses. Hope for sunshine.

So bring out your family and friends and meet us out on the job site.

Day 1 of House #9

Our first day on-site was great! God blessed us with beautiful weather... and lots of amazing volunteers! With over 30 women working hard we were not only able to meet our goals for the day but we exceeded them beyond our expectations! It's always great to see what a group of people can accomplish when working together for God's purpose.

Excitement for Women Build in Tulsa!

The Women Build group here in Tulsa has had an exciting beginning to our spring 2009 build season! Along with our other donors; Lowes made it possible for us to break ground this spring here in Tulsa by providing sponsership for House #9.
Trisha Yearwood the Country Star has also teamed up with Lowes and Habitat For Humanity: Women Build to get the word out about this great organization! Trisha spent a couple days with us here in Tulsa building and promoting Women Build. She is also going to be building on a Women Build house in her home town Atlanta.
A few of our Women Builders had the pleasure of meeting and working with Trisha during her time at Habitat-Tulsa.

Women Build Paint at Habitat HQ

Over the winter months there may not have been lots of houses going up in Tulsa, but the Habitat team has been working hard!

At the Head-Quarters in Tulsa, walls were raised indoors to create a new office space for one of our team members. Many hands were put to work as we all pitched in to get the job done.

Women Build helped to finish off the room by drywalling, and helping to install trim. All of the painting for this project was done by Women Build!

Along with improving the work environment for one of our own, lots of organizing has been taking place too! Come By our Re-Store before you tackle YOUR next project!

At our Re-Store you will find: tile, windows, doors, trim, cabinets, bathroom and light fixtures, shades and blinds, mortar and grout, nuts and bolts... you name it we probably have it... new and previously loved :)

Tile Class This Saturday!

As a reminder to those of you interested; this saturday there is going to be a class for any women builders interested in learning how to tile. The class will be taught by Wendy. Wendy single handedly tiles many of the bathrooms in the Tulsa area Habitat for Humanity houses and is looking for an apprentice.
Please know that your attendance is greatly appreciated, however, Wendy hopes to be training a couple of people committed to being her apprentices for this next build season!
